Relative Perspective

by Kevin C. Krinke

I stand upon this hilltop, gazing at the stars.
Wondering and pondering, from everything to Mars.
We humans are so small, in this grand scheme of all.
Yet here we stand on this land scheming our own windfall.

Our actions speak far louder than our words,
Yet for all our insanity we gather up in herds.
We discuss and debate of everything to late,
Yet some of us don’t realize that we all share our fate.

I myself have chosen my own high perch,
For it suites me well even though it may hurt.
I will admit that sometimes it’s most easy to forget,
That those around you have yet to see the truth in regret.

So here I stand, with my humanity et al.
Exposed to the reality of our common downfall.
I accept my reality to be what I know and
I understand our commonality is to be one and grow.
